That said… And before anyone else says it… I didn’t do my homework. How naive & stupid… It strikes me that we poor relations (this side of the pond) have been ripped off yet again. I thought that by buying the more expensive and latest model then I’d be at least able to steam live UK Tv. Hi all… having just read through this thread and ss a new owner of the much vaunted WD TV Live Hub I’m gutted and feel cheated but also I feel a fool. Folks were dismayed that they had to buy a whole new player, as opposed to just a firmware update, but that’s what happens when you run into hardware limitations – they can’t be altered by firmware, no matter how wishful folks are. WD had to build a whole new box with DRM chips. Folks asked for Netflix, and it could not be added to the non-DRM Live. That’s why the Live Plus was made in the first place. That’s _ exactly _ why WD had to release a DRM-capable Latin American version of the Live Plus… they couldn’t just offer Netflix through a firmware update. Netflix simply won’t run on a non-DRM machine. The North American models do have the DRM-capable processor… the ones shipped to the rest of the world do not. If this service is going to be provided cannot see why Netflix will not follow!Īs pointed out, Netflix _ REQUIRES _ WD to use DRM-versions of the Sigma processor. Where is WD “advertising” that Netflix is available on their devices in the EMEA market? Select “Online Services”, and select “EMEA” instead of “Canada” or “United States”. The current version of the website certainly does NOT say you can use Netflix in the UK… Then, when Netflix came to Canada and was available, that changed. Misleading, how? The old pages used to say “U.S. This is really misleading, ok Netflix wasnt available here in the UK then but it is now. As said, the North American versions have the DRM processor from Sigma, and the other versions lack DRM-capabilities altogether.Ĭonsumers should be suitably informed as netflix advertising is all over WD live hub specs and advertising on the official WD site. I think if the WD live Hub is not able to provide Netflix due to hardware limitations!Įxactly.
